Y’all I’m not kidding with what I’m about to tell you, and maybe it happens in other towns that I’m just not aware of.
So the annual Mt. Pleasant Christmas Parade was this past Sunday evening going down one of the main streets in the area. This was our 3rd year going to watch it (it was big P’s second since he’s usually at the Panthers football game) and our 2nd year having our Christmas Party at the house prior to the parade (we are walking distance to the parade). Our house is 1800 square feet and we had about 28 adults and 25+ kids at our house on Sunday. IT. WAS. SO. MUCH. FUN. (just don’t ask me about the state of the house after-the-fact, and about Monday morning)
I knew from the first year I went with SPJ that we needed to get our chairs out there early to “reserve” a spot, so last year we arranged for everyone to drop off their chairs at our house by Saturday morning. P and I went out last year around 6:30am on Sunday (the day of the parade) and scored a great spot and put out the 20+ chairs for everyone. We noticed when we were out there that they were already a few chairs out and started talking to other people that were out and they were saying that people had put their chairs out Saturday afternoon, but a bunch were stolen overnight. Well yeah – why would you leave your nice beach chair out overnight!? We walked away from there just shaking our head thinking about how ridiculous it was to feel the need to reserve your spot over 24 hours in advance.
Well fast forward to this year, we collected chairs from everyone again the week leading up to the parade, and SPJ and P were planning on going out together early Sunday morning to put them out in our “spot.” It worked perfectly last year, and it would be perfect again this year, EXCEPT IT WASN’T! P and I had my Holiday party for work on Saturday evening and took an uber from our house to downtown Charleston. As our uber was driving down Coleman Blvd our jaws dropped, there were chairs on both sides, 2 deep along the ENTIRE parade route, at 5:00 on Saturday evening!!! WTH!?
Now ensues the Mt. Pleasant Chair War! No we didn’t move anyone’s chairs and we didn’t steal them either, P just drove around for 30 mins Sunday morning trying to find a spot for us! Y’all – I’m scared what the chair situation is going to be next year, and then in 5 years are we going to have to put them out on Monday!? Am I the only one that finds this absurd? ha ha
Anyways – a great time was had by all and great memories were made, and at the end of the day, that’s what matters right!?
I hope you haven’t had to participate in any chair wars this Holiday season, but if you did that you came out on top like we did!
